According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 25 percent of all children age 2 to 18 years now meet the criteria for being overweight. This statistic is a scary one since these children are at greater risk for type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, joint pain, high cholesterol, and cardiovascular disease. How a child eats today is a direct reflection of how they will eat as an adult. Eating a well balanced diet is important to our youth because it is what helps them grow, develop, do well academically, and feel good about themselves.

A weight loss camp for kids is a camp designed like any other summer camp, but with a structured schedule around teaching the importance of fitness and nutrition. These camps are for children and young adults of all ages. There are activities such as swimming, softball, basketball, circuit workouts, Zumba, gym, and so much more! The children get to enjoy the pleasure of a summer camp and leave with a whole new outlook on health. Camp Shane offers nutrition classes biweekly to help give the children the knowledge they need to succeed in a healthy lifestyle, as well as counseling in order to help the child create a healthy relationship with food.
Living a healthy life is important to most people, and it starts at childhood. Avoiding the reality that someone is unhealthy only causes more damage both physically and mentally. Local fat camps not only help kids shed pounds, but also help create weight loss plans for kids in order to keep the weight off once they return home. A majority of these kids not only leave lighter, but also with a new found confidence in themselves. They make friends that will last a lifetime, and return home with the tools they need to continue living a healthy lifestyle

Once a child leaves ‘fat camp’, they will have learned the tools they need to continue to live a healthy lifestyle. Staff instills the importance of eating a well balanced diet, and also refers them to possible online weight loss programs for teens. Although diet is an important factor in weight loss, exercise is too. Work out programs for kids are usually available upon departure of the weight loss camps for kids.
