Deb
Camp Director

“Hi! My name is Deb Kahana. I’m a 50 year veteran Hollywood stunt woman, an 8th Degree Master Black Belt, an American Red Cross CPR Instructor, and have a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education. I’ve performed stunts for The Titanic, America’s Most Wanted, worked for Universal, Disney and other studios. In 1976, I helped my dad run the world’s FIRST Stunt School where I was Camp Director for Kahana’s Stunt School, a 6 week resident camp for children and adults wanting to break into the stunt business.
I’m also a former overweight teen, and can provide hope and insight to campers on their weight loss journey. I will provide the kids with compassion and understanding, and their parents with a sense of security. I also bring motivation, fun, and an upbeat quirkiness to the camp environment. I wanted to do something that would make a difference – that’s when I ran across Camp Shane; I love helping kids! I feel good knowing that what I do here can make a positive difference in the rest of their lives. I’m looking forward to getting to know these kids one on one, helping them celebrate milestones, overcome struggles, and joining them in group activities. Don’t worry parents, I won’t be teaching your kids how to jump off any buildings!”

I attend college at the University of Richmond where I run on the Women’s Division 1 Cross Country and Track Teams. Academics are always a top priority and I lean towards pursuing a degree in leadership and education. At home in Massachusetts, I enjoy visiting Boston, shopping, hiking and spending time with my family, friends and my two dogs. I also love to travel which is why I am so excited to spend this summer in Arizona.

I cannot wait to share my love of fitness with our campers. I love working with kids and have spent time as a volunteer teacher and a camp counselor before. I’m most excited to serve as a motivational and supportive voice to help campers achieve their goals. I’m so excited for summer 2017!

I am a senior at the University of Utah. I have always had a passion for exercise and athletics in both the competitive and recreational fields. I have been a competitive skier and soccer player for my entire life. I also love camping, hiking, biking and many other outdoor activities. I have been coaching gymnastics for the last 6 years and have loved working with young athletes of all ages. I am a Kinesiology major and will also be graduating with a minor in nutrition. I am very excited to meet all of the campers and staff at Camp Shane and am looking forward to having an awesome summer with everyone! I have worked at many other summer camps but am positive that Camp Shane is going to be my favorite one yet.

Sports & Fitness

Two of my biggest loves in life are fitness and kids. Being able to combine those two things for a summer makes me incredibly excited for Camp Shane. I am currently a senior at the University of Utah studying Exercise and Sport Science with an emphasis in fitness and wellness. I really enjoy weightlifting and running when I am not in school or working. I also enjoy softball, volleyball and being outdoors. This will be my first time in Arizona, so I am really excited to spend my summer here. I am excited to be a part of Camp Shane to have fun, make memories and experience new things. Most importantly, I hope to have a positive influence on campers and help them reach their weight loss goals!
