FAQ’s

Where is Camp Shane California located?

We are conveniently located in Thousand Oaks, a highly desirable area and beautiful location. Camp Shane is hosted at CLU (California Lutheran University) a small school with gorgeous grounds and incomparable, professional grade facilities. The climate is typically very comfortable with breezes coming in from the ocean.  However, in case of a heat wave, the school is 100% air conditioned. You would be hard pressed to find a better facility at any price.

Where do your kids come from?

Most come from California and adjacent states. However, we have campers from all over the US and a few from overseas. We welcome and encourage diversity.

Where do your campers live?

Our campers live in exceptionally nice buildings.  Each room has two bedrooms, a living room and private bath facilities. CLU has the nicest living arrangements we have seen at any camp! Each building contains a large common area for kids to relax and mingle.

What is a normal day like?

Camp Shane California offers six periods daily, filled with a well rounded and fun filled balance of activities. We offer most sports, pool swimming and water exercises, nutrition and cooking classes, optional Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, arts &, crafts, paint ball, Zumba, circuit training, fitness, scores of unique fabulous games created by Shane staff, trips, and so much more. A child will never be bored at Shane and will take home real, usable skills. The excitement continues into the evening with unforgettable activities like pool parties, and theatrical performances.

How do you deal with homesickness?

It may surprise you, but we have little homesickness at Shane. We provide a warm, nurturing atmosphere, where everyone knows everybody’s name, and there is a tight knit community of campers and staff. Children flourish in our “home away from home,” where the environment is always encouraging and positive.

What medical facilities and staff are in camp?

Any prescription medication must be ordered through Camp Meds and will be distributed by a staff member. In the event of an illness, a camper will be taken to a nearby clinic located only minutes from the school. In an emergency, the hospital is only 6 miles away. We do not assume responsibility to dispense medication, but we work hard to ensure that there are no problems.
