The old fruit and cream bars, such as Creamsicles, are a fruit-flavored shell, filled with low fat ice cream. They are low on fruit and are between 70 to 100 calories.
Newer fruit and cream bars are now blended together. But sadly, brands like Fruttare and Magnolia tend to use fattier ice cream or coconut oil and are about 110 to 180 calories. They are a healthier dessert options but there are more choices available to the consumer that are lower in calorie. At weight loss camp we talk with our campers about making the healthy choices and to read the labels to determine the lowest calorie option.
Try Fruitfull Banana, Pina Colada, Raspberry Cream, and Strawberry Cream bars that have around 100 calories and the company states that they are 40 to 60 percent made up of fruit. Try the coconut bars that are made with coconut milk or cream and not oil. Palapa Azul fruit bars are 80 calories and are made from water, coconut cream, sugar, and shredded coconut. This healthier dessert option is great tasting and able to satisfy your sweet tooth. Even at weight loss camp we do not eliminate dessert from our campers daily menu.
Childhood obesity is on the rise and we all must do our part to help prevent our youth from becoming overweight. Keep these low calorie dessert options in the house and throw away the high fat ice cream.
